Several countries close diplomatic agencies in Turkey

(VOVworld) - The US on Tuesday closed its embassy in Ankara and its consulates in Istanbul, and the southern city of Adana after an individual fired shot in front of the mission in the capital. American citizens have been warned to stay away from the areas near the embassy compound in Ankara.

The same day, Iran also announced the closure of its consulates in Turkey due to security concerns.

A spokesperson for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that an 18-member team has flied to Turkey to investigate the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, who was shot at an exhibition on Monday. Mevlut Mert Aydintas, 22, a member of the Ankara riot police, has been identified as the killer. Mevlut had recently been sacked due to accusation of having links to a terrorist group and the July failed coup d’etat in Turkey.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed his regret over the assassination, adding that Georgia will stand side by side with other countries and resolutely fight against the brutal act.

Mexico’s Foreign Ministry on Monday strongly condemned the assassination and stressed that Mexico will never accept terrorist acts in any forms.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sent messages of sympathy to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov respectively.
