In his closing remarks, Singapore Minister of Defense Ng Eng Hen said traditional and non-traditional challenges posed threats to the regional prosperity and development. Tension in the East Sea, North Korea’s nuclear program, and terrorism have caused instability in Southeast Asia. The East Sea issue and maritime security continued to be discussed on the last day of the meeting. ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh said ASEAN called for denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and resuming negotiations to ease tension.
