South Korea hopes US-North Korea talks resumed this year

(VOVWORLD) - South Korea's Ambassador to the United States said Wednesday that he expects the US and North Korea to resume denuclearization negotiations before the end of the year.

Ambassador Lee Soo-hyuck told reporters in his first briefing since taking office last week, saying that based on the history of nuclear negotiations, the negotiators are expected to meet again two or three months in the future.

Lee Hae-chan, head of South Korea’s Democratic Party, said he believes both the US and North Korea want to resume denuclearization negotiations. He anticipates that they will push for working-level talks again if the two countries can make some concessions.
