Summer books for Vietnamese children

(VOVworld) – A wide variety of books for children will be released this summer. The oldies that have been familiar to generations of Vietnamese children aged 6 to 15 will be re-published, including 2 volumes of the collection of Vietnamese proverbs and folk songs complied by Vu Ngoc Phan and the 18-volume Kaleidoscope by Nguyen Nhat Anh, the best-selling children’s author. Children will also be able to get numerous legendary literary works by foreign authors. Some of the picture books include “Play with Yu Yu” by the Youth Publishing House, and “Vietnam’s folk tales” and “the adventure of baby goat Mato” from the Kim Dong Publishing House.

Vu Thi Quynh Lien, Deputy Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Kim Dong Publishing House, said: “Kim Dong Publishing House has been searching for new topics which can teach children about life’s values. Foreign books are warmly welcomed by children thanks to their colorful illustrations and interesting content.”

This summer, the Youth Publishing House will release 100 books, notably, What I Am Thinking When I Am a Child, an interactive two-book set by artist Bien Thuy which encourage children from 6 to 10 to speak about their wishes. Minh Long bookstore has released publications on science, technology, engineering, and math.

Reader Bui Thi Thu Hong in Hanoi, said: “I often buy books for my children books that include meaningful stories behind simple acts. Such works can help my children draw life lessons that the parents don’t have the chance to teach them. Sometimes my children can relate stories in the books to real circumstances and learn lessons from it.”

Publishing houses will host a number of talks between authors and young readers.
