Elected head of The National Alliance for Syria (NAFS) Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib on Monday called on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to move toward talks. In a press conference on the Al-Jazeera TV channel, in response to criticisms for negotiating with Assad’s regime, the NAFS leader said that negotiation with the government is not a betrayal of the opposition. He then urged President Assad to clarify his position on conducting a dialog to end the bloody conflict. The same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi affirmed Iran’s economic support for Assad’s regime.
