Syria sends troops to confront Turkish army

(VOVWORLD) - Middle Eastern media quoted military sources as saying that the Syrian army is deploying three infantry brigades east of the Euphrates river.

These units will be deployed in Al-Hasakah province in northern Syria where Turkey recently launched a military operation to clear out Kurdish forces. The Syrian army now controls the entire city of Manbij, and surrounding areas. The deployment was announced after Damascus and the Kurdish government reached a mutual support agreement to resist Turkey's incursion.

The same day the Turkish army took control of the town of Ras al-Ain, in northeastern Syria, after Kurdish armed forces withdrew from Syria under a cease fire agreement that Turkey and the United States negotiated last Thursday.
