(VOVworld) – On Monday King Bhumibol Adulyadej approved the dissolution of the Thai National Assembly and set February 2nd as election day. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced the dissolution of the National Assembly and called an election as soon as possible to end the current political conflict.
Ignoring Yingluck’s reconciliation efforts, anti-government organizers said they will continue protests until a “People’s National Assembly” is established. It is estimated that 160,000 protesters converged on government offices Monday.

Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban said demonstrators demand not just that the National Assembly be dissolved and the current government step down. They want a “People’s National Assembly” which will take charge of political reforms before a new government is elected.
According to the Thai Army, things will cool down. Deputy army spokesman Winthai Suvaree Winthai said the assembly’s dissolution has eased the political tension, reiterating the army’s keenness to protect all citizens and restore peace to Thailand.
