Thai farmers call off demonstrations in Bangkok airport

(VOVworld) – In the latest developments, the Thai farmers’ representative, former senator Chada Thaiseth, said the government had pledged to pay money next week via the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives. The farmers intend to go home and wait for their money to be delivered. However, Chada also warned that farmers would return and camp at Suvarnabhumi Airport, in Bangkok, if the government does not keep its promises.

Earlier, around 3000 farmers and 800 tractors from provinces across Thailand headed to Bangkok to join the anti-government protests. They said that they only wanted to hold symbolic demonstrations and did not intend to block the traffic as in 2008 when the protestors forced Thailand’s two main airports in Bangkok to shut down.
