Thailand passes protest ban
(VOVworld) – Thailand passed a bill on Wednesday requiring protest organisers to seek official permission at least 24 hours before holding a rally. Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the new ban covers all types of rallies and will play a significant role in the next government’s effort to maintain peace and order.

According to the new law, unauthorised protesters could face up 6 months in custody and fined 300 USD. Organisers of protests which disrupt transport and key infrastructure could spend up to 10 years in jail and pay a 600-USD fine.
