The 47th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-47) and related meetings open

(VOVworld) - The 47th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-47) and   related meetings opened in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on Friday. Addressing the most important annual event of ASEAN Foreign Ministers, Myanmar President U Thein Sein praised the ASEAN’s strive to become a dynamic and prosperous grouping over the past 47 years. Under the theme “Joining hands towards a prosperous and peaceful community”, the President said that Myanmar expects the ASEAN member countries to work out practical measures to build up a new vision for next 20 years: “We are concerned about recent world developments. The ASEAN must promote its non alignment policy and active role in settling disputes and differences peacefully by showing its central leadership role. In the restructuring of its new political and security mechanism in the ASEAN, the South East Asia Treaty of Amity and Cooperation must be the fundamental document for our future efforts.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh is leading the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 47th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-47) and related meetings. The delegation will participate in the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC), the 15th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (APT-15), the fourth East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (EAS FMM-4), and the 21st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF-21).
