The Northwestern Steering Committee launches tasks for 2015’s 2nd half

(VOVworld) – The Northwestern Steering Committee on Thursday reviewed the socio-economic situation in the first half of the year and set out tasks for the rest of the year.

In the reviewed period, the northwestern region has obtained remarkable results in all sectors. The economy has grown steadily, with an estimated GDP growth of 7.75%. Investment in the region has effectively generated momentum for localities. Sufficient efforts have been put into socio-cultural, educational, and healthcare services. Ethnic and religious affairs, political security, social order, and border sovereignty have been ensured.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, head of the Northwestern Steering Committee, says:The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will submit more specific policies for people living near hydropower plants. I ask functional agencies to have in place appropriate policies on reservoir and dam safety.
The Deputy Prime Minister asked the Steering Committee and local authority to impose policies for sustainable poverty reduction, organize training for local people in aqua-cultural production, and enhance border security and defense.
