The US hopes to boost the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam

(VOVworld) - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid a working visit to the US from August 21-23 to strengthen cooperation in HIV/AIDS prevention, judicial reform, and humanitarian issues. Phuc met with Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, and leaders of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Office of US Global AIDS Coordinator.

He appreciated the US’s assistance for Vietnam’s health care, humanitarianism, education-training, environment, relief in war aftermath, and drug-related crime prevention. He noted that those cooperation activities have made a positive contribution to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries in recent years.

US officials spoke highly of Vietnam’s development and international integration achievements, as well as its success in combating HIV/AIDS and other epidemics. They voiced the US’s resolve to boost the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam and pledged to support and share its experience with Vietnam in judicial reform, training of judicial staff, drug abuse-HIV/AIDS prevention, and counter-terrorism.
