During a working program in Quang Tri province, top leader To Lam on Wednesday visited officials and people living and working in the island district.

Established in October 2004, Con Co is the only island district in the six north central provinces. Nestled 13-17 nautical miles from the mainland and spanning 230 hectares, Con Co Island has a particularly important position in national defense and security. It is the southern gateway to the Gulf of Tonkin, as well as the international aviation and maritime gateway.

The General Secretary and President requested authorities to take good care of the material and spiritual lives of islanders and ensure adequate learning and medical care conditions for the locals. He noted that tourism development must be sustainable, protecting the environment and island landscape.

On the occasion, the top leader offered incense and flowers to President Ho Chi Minh at the memorial house dedicated to the late leader and heroic martyrs at their monument in Con Co Island. He also gave gifts to local families and essential medical equipment for medical examination and treatment.
