Top leaders of Vietnam, China hold talks

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said he believes that the ongoing state visit to Vietnam by Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping will be a new historic milestone, bringing relations between the two Parties and countries to a new height.

During talks with Mr. Xi in Hanoi on Tuesday, Mr. Trong emphasized that the Chinese leader’s visit coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, demonstrating the current stature and prospects of bilateral ties.

He congratulated the achievements China has gained since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and expressed his confidence that the Chinese State and people will successfully realize their second centennial goal.

Party leader Trong reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, and diversification and multilateralization of external relations, and “four nos” defense policy.

He reiterated that Vietnam considers developing relations with China a top priority and a strategic choice. 

Chinese Party leader and President Xi praised Vietnam’s achievements over the past nearly 40 years of renewal including its growing international influence and position. He said he believes Vietnam will achieve the two 100-year goals outlined by the 13th National Party Congress.

Mr. Xi said China attaches great importance to relations with Vietnam, considering Vietnam a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy.

The two leaders agreed that the traditional friendship of comradeship and brotherhood cultivated by generations of leaders of both countries is the precious asset of the two peoples.

They shared the view that multifaceted cooperation between the two countries has seen comprehensive progress and has been increasingly deepened since the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership was established in 2008. 

They agreed to build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, striving for happiness of the two peoples and mankind’s peace and and progress in line with the UN Charter and international law, and on the basis of mutual respect, equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and persistently resolving disagreements by peaceful means. 

After the talks, the two leaders were introduced to 36 agreements on cooperation in multiple areas between the two countries’ ministries, agencies, and localities. 

Later the same day, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife and President Vo Van Thuong and his wife hosted a banquet in honor of Party leader and President Xi Jinping and his wife.
