Tourism in western Mekong Delta prospers after COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) - Tourism in the western region of the Mekong Delta has recovered in the first half of the year to welcome over 16 million visitors, an increase of more than 57% compared to the same period last year.

At a meeting on Friday to review tourism activities in the Mekong Delta province in the first half of the year and discuss orientations for the rest of the year, President of the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, Tran Viet Phuong, said that the western region of the Mekong Delta, comprising of Can Tho city and An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau province, will focus on human resource training and increase cooperation to organize a range of activities to attract tourists, such as the Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Exhibition in September and the tourism cooperative program between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 Mekong Delta provinces.

Mr. Phuong said: “We need to enhance human resource training for the tourism sector, particularly in the context of digital transformation. The Mekong Delta Tourism Association has developed a training project and submitted it to the Vietnam Tourism Development Fund for approval. It is scheduled to begin next month.”
