Under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945), the ceremony was held biannually in Spring and Autumn and was listed among the most important royal events, only after “Nam Giao” worshipping. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Hue Relic Preservation Center said: “By restoring the ritual, we hope to help contemporary people understand their ancestors’ aspirations for living in harmony with nature and for wealth, bumper crops, and peace. The restoration of tangible cultural heritages of Hue needs to be in parallel with the recreation of accompanied intangible cultural values.”

The Xa Tac ritual (worshipping two genies of the wet rice cultivation – Earth and Crop) includes incense offering, Genie procession, and royal oration reading.
