Neither son, Saadi Gaddafi nor Saif al-Islam, was present in court at Tripoli's Al-Hadba prison. Chief investigator Sidiq Al-Sour said Saadi was absent because an investigation was underway but the trials for other defendants still continued. Authorities are considering whether to hold a closed or public trial for Saif who is still held by a group of former rebels in Western Libya.
All defendants face charges of murder, kidnapping, incitement to riot, embezzlement, and destruction of property.
