(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump said on Monday that popular Chinese-owned video app TikTok would be "out of business" in the US if it did not sell its US operations by 15 September, and green-lighted Microsoft's offer to buy TikTok.
Mr. Trump’s announcement added pressure on TikTok's parent company ByteDance to reach a deal while the app has been under formal investigation on US national security grounds.
On Friday, President Trump said he was planning to ban TikTok amid concerns that its Chinese ownership represents a national security risk because of the personal data it handles.
