Trump speaks with Putin about Ukraine conflict

(VOVWORLD) - US president-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and discussed the conflict in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported Sunday. Neither Russia nor the US has officially confirmed the report.

The two men discussed the goal of peace on the European continent and Trump expressed interest in follow-up conversations to resolve the conflict soon. In his presidential campaign, Trump said he would bring an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine, though did not offer details about how he intended to do so.

Ukrainian officials have been informed of the call and did not object to the conversation taking place, said two people familiar with the matter.

Putin remains open to dialogue with Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
