8 racing boats decorated with symbolic shapes of four mythological creatures in Vietnam’s traditions and beliefs: dragon, unicorn, tortoise, and phoenix, competed in a distance of 6,000 m. The champion was the Phoenix team from An Vinh village.

Tran Thi Kim Cuc, a visitor to Ly Son island, said: “I’m lucky to watch the boat racing with the locals. I understand more about the culture of Ly Son island and Vietnam in general.”

The festival is an event for fishermen to pray for good weather, bumper crops, and peace. It was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2020.
