Turkish President calls US decision on visa suspension “upsetting”

US Ambassador to Turkey John Bass said the duration of the suspension will depend on dialogues between the two countries regarding US consulate staff members who were arrested by Turkish authorities.

On Monday, Turkish authorities summoned a second US consulate worker in Istanbul. His wife and daughter were detained over alleged links to last year’s failed coup attempt, led by cleric Fethullah Gulen. The US Embassy in Turkey responded by suspending visa services for Turkish citizens and Ankara authorities immediately responded in kind.
