Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung on Wednesday morning ordered residents of affected localities to evacuate until the storm is over. He asked local authorities to ensure adequate food and water for all shelters.

At a meeting of the steering committee for responding to typhoon Molave on Tuesday night, Mr. Dung ordered the 380,000 residents and 92 fishing vessels of Binh Dinh province to take shelter. Rescue forces struggled to rescue a fishing boat with a broken engine. Meanwhile two vessels with 26 fishermen aboard were reported missing.

“We need to ensure safety at sea. The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of National Defense must coordinate with other agencies to find the missing vessels. Local authorities should also ensure the safety of shelters,” said Mr. Dung at the meeting.

Domestic airlines have canceled flights to and from Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Phu Yen, and Gia Lai. Vietnam’s north-south railway has suspended its operation.

6,500 tons of rice from the national reserve has been delivered to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, and Quang Nam to feed disaster victims.
