UN Secretary-General implores nuclear powers to stick to no-first-strike policies

(VOVWORLD) -  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told a press conference in Tokyo, Japan yesterday that the risk of a nuclear arms race was returning to the world. It’s the moment to ask the nuclear-armed countries to commit to the principle of non-first-use and not use and not threaten the non-nuclear countries.

The UN chief said that the world now has about 13,000 nuclear bombs and huge investments has been poured in modernizing atomic arsenals. He said that it’s time to stop this action and use the money to fight climate change and poverty, and address other needs of the international community.

The UN Secretary-General is scheduled to visit Mongolia and South Korea to discuss ways to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.
