The special session came at the request of the US, one of the five permanent members of the Council and the Council chair for May.
At the meeting, the US warned that the Security Council "cannot stay silent any longer" as Pyongyang has repeatedly tested missiles and appears to prepare for a seventh nuclear test. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said it’s time for the Security Council to act.
