Mohammed,  who is also Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, spoke at the preparatory meeting for the 2022 conference held in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mohammad said that meaningful progress must be made to address climate-related loss and damage. She stressed that financing for loss and damage is an issue that cannot be deferred any longer.

The Deputy Secretary-General urged greater support for the efforts by the Secretary-General to ensure 100 percent global coverage of early warning systems within the next five years.

In Kinshasa, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who is the President-designate of COP27, called on the developed world to honor all climate pledges to avoid undermining the credibility of the UN conferences on climate change.
