UN, US call for restraint and dialogues in Thailand

(VOVworld) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for all parties in Thailand to work together for a solution through dialogue. He was speaking on Wednesday after the Thai Constitutional Court ruled to dismiss Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and 9 cabinet members for abuse of power and violating the Constitution.

The US also urged involved parties in Thailand to exercise restraint and resolve political tensions peacefully and democratically so that the people can elect deserving leaders.

On Thursday, anti-government protestors said that they will appoint a new government after the dismissal of Prime Minister Yingluck and the cabinet. Akanat Promphan, a spokesperson for the protestors, said the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Trade Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan as caretaker Prime Minister by the Puea Thai Party was illegal. Yingluck’s supporters said they will organize a mass demonstration for May 10.
