(VOVWORLD) - A record 12.4 million Syrian people are struggling to find enough food to eat, the UN food agency said Wednesday, a situation it described as "alarming."

60 percent of the Syrian population are now food insecure, the World Food Programme said, based on a nationwide assessment made in late 2020. Syria's ten-year-old war has ravaged its economy and sent inflation soaring.
