UNESCO heritage performance festival to open in Tuyen Quang late August

(VOVWORLD) -The UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Performance Festival and Tuyen Citadel Festival will take place in Tuyen Quang province from late this month till September 14. The provincial People's Committee made the announcement at a press conference in Hanoi on Friday.

The Festival themed "Quintessence Convergence and Shining" will be attended by Tra Vinh, Dak Nong, Phu Yen, Thua Thien Hue and Bac Ninh provinces plus delegations from Japan and the Republic of Korea.

The event aims to increase exchanges, introduce and spread the values of representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity in Vietnam and around the world to the public.

This year's Tuyen Citadel Festival, the 20th edition of the special Mid-Autumn Festival, will see hundreds of giant, colorful Mid-Autumn lanterns,  featuring the images and characters of fairy tales, legends, or the national defense history. The lantern parade will take place across Tuyen Quang city until the full moon of August.

Nguyen Van Hoa, Deputy Director of the provincial Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, said, “This year we combine the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Performance Festival and Tuyen Citadel Festival which has become a mid-Autumn Festival event of the whole country.”

“It is a festival of the people, completely created and operated by the people with the parade and performance of giant mid-Autumn models, the soul of the festival, to serve children. The models are innovated each year and the way to perform them is also new," Hoa noted.

As part of the festival, cultural, sports and tourism activities will be held, including a cultural and sports festival of ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang, an exchange and performance of intangible cultural heritage of humanity, a trade and tourism fair, and a program to introduce Vietnamese food.
