US adjusts visa regulations for many developing countries

(VOVWORLD) - The United States imposed a financial guarantee up to 15,000 USD on citizens from 23 developing countries wishing to visit it in order to discourage them from remaining after the expiration of their visas, in a new tightening of measures aimed at curbing illegal immigration.

This new measure will be enforced on December 24 for a trial period of six months. It’s unsure whether it will be maintained by the new administration, which will begin on January 20.

Under the new procedure, citizens of the countries who hold “B” visas allowing a short-term visit to the United States for the purpose of tourism or trade will be required to pay up to 15,000 USD held by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department if the person failed to prove that they left the United States within the specified time limit.
