(VOVWORLD) -Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump began their first face-to-face summit since 2021 at 11:30 a.m. on Friday (US time) in Anchorage, the US state of Alaska.

The two world leaders met for almost three hours at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. President Putin was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov; President Trump was accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Mr. Puitn said he expects that “today's agreements will be the starting point, not only for the solution of the Ukrainian issue, but also will help us bring back business-like and pragmatic relations between Russia and the US.”
“I believe we had a very productive meeting,” Mr. Trump said, “There were many, many points that we agreed on.”
A ceasefire was not announced and President Trump said he would call NATO and Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
