US begins troop withdrawal from Afghanistan
(VOVWORLD) - US troops started to leave Afghanistan as the first step in realizing the US-Taliban agreement signed in late February.
The US will cut the number of forces in Afghanistan to 8,600 within 14 months if its military conditions are secured, said the US Forces Afghanistan spokesman Colonel Sonny Leggett. Leggett added that the US will maintain all the military means and authorities to accomplish its objectives, including conducting counterterrorism operations against al-Qaeda and ISIS-K and providing support to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
