Trump said in a pair of tweets on Friday that the Chinese had agreed to “many structural changes and massive purchases” of American farm, energy and manufactured goods. Trump also said the US will limit some tariff lines on Chinese goods but the 25% tariffs will remain as is. He confirmed to begin the 2nd phase trade negotiation with China.

China’s vice-commerce minister, Wang Shouwen, said in a late night briefing on Friday that the US had agreed to cancel some of its existing tariffs on Chinese goods. He said the two sides had agreed on the text of a nine-chapter agreement covering intellectual property, technology transfers, agricultural products and dispute settlement among other topics. Liao Min, of the office of the Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs, said the second-phase negotiation will depend on the implementation of the phase 1.
