(VOVworld) - Crowds are expected to gather in New York City, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, to commemorate the day nearly 3,000 people killed when hijacked jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field on September 11, 2001. In New York City, the ceremony will take place at the 9/11 Memorial, where the Twin Towers once stood. Minutes of silence are expected to be held at the Ground Zero site, to take place at the moments the two jets crashed into the towers and the buildings fell, as well as the moments the plane struck the Pentagon and the crash of the jet in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Fourteen years after the attack, mourners will gather at the memorial, for the annual reading of victims' names from both the 1993 and 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

In another development, a Florida man has been arrested and accused of plotting to detonate a pressure-cooker bomb at a memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday. Joshua Ryne Goldberg, 20, was arrested on charges of distributing information relating to explosives, destructive devices and weapons of mass destruction, the department said. His arrest was announced a day before the 14th anniversary of the attacks. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
