Obama approved in late February a nuclear deal which will allow US businesses to export material, technology, and facilities to Vietnam. The US Nuclear Energy Institute estimates that the deal could increase US exports to Vietnam to as much as 20 billion USD and generate more than 50,000 jobs in the US.

The agreement was initiated by US Secretary of State John Kerry and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on the sidelines of an East Asia summit in Brunei last October.
