US considers revoking Russia's "most favored nation" status

(VOVWORLD) - US President Joe Biden will call for an end of normal trade relations with Russia and pave the way for increased tariffs on Russian imports, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters on Friday.

A senior US official said removing Russia's "Permanent Normal Trade Relations" (PNTR) status will require an act of Congress, but both houses back this move, he added.

Also on Friday, the Japanese government announced that it will freeze all assets of three Belarusian banks, following EU’s approval to exclude them from the SWIFT messaging system over Minsk’s support for Russia’s operation in Ukraine.
