(VOVworld) – The US Senate on Wednesday approved the annulment of the country’s Department of Agriculture’s program to supervise catfish. Dao Tran Nhan, the Vietnamese Embassy’s Counsellor in charge of trade with the US, says ‘The US Senate’s decision is a good news for Vietnam’s tra and basa fish producers. If the bill becomes law and is included in the 2012 Farm Bill, it means the program to supervise catfish initiated by the US Department of Agriculture will be abandoned’.

Nhan said the 2008 Farm Bill will expire on September 1st and the US Congress will have to approve a new draft law called the 2012 Farm Bill this summer. On Tuesday, the US Senate met and passed the decision to stop supervising catfish. Once the 2012 Farm Bill is approved next week, it will be applied to all agricultural and aquatic products including Vietnamese tra and basa fish.
