US, Japan promise cooperation on North Korean issues

(VOVWORLD) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump agreed during a telephone talk on Monday to continue their discussion on North Korea and other regional issues during Trump’s visit to Japan next week.

Abe told Trump that he wants to send a strong message about coordination between the two countries during the US leader’s three-day visit beginning this Sunday. Trump told Abe that the US is 100% with Japan, and that the meeting will offer an excellent opportunity to show the world that there is no room for doubt about the strength of the Japan-US defense alliance.

In talks slated for November 6, Abe and Trump are expected to renew their commitment to the bilateral alliance and stress that they are in agreement about how to handle the threat from North Korea’s nuclear and missile development.
