(VOVWORLD) - The Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus will impact US economic growth in the coming months, but may not stop the recovery of the world's number one economy, according to US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen at a meeting with US mayors in Washington this week.

Yellen said the coronavirus relief bill signed into law in March "acted like a vaccine for the American economy, safeguarding the financial system from new variants".
She said the 350 billion USD in coronavirus relief aid for state and local governments has allowed US cities to respond faster and more strongly to an ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic.
