US peace activists visit Vietnam

(VNA/ VOVworld) – 16 US peace activists are on a 10-day Vietnam visit to attend activities marking the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Accord ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam. Many of them were active in the anti-war movement in the US as well as in charity campaigns to help hospitals in North Vietnam during the war. Addressing Thursday’s reception, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Vu Xuan Hong appreciated the great support of the peace activists for Vietnam. He stressed that the Paris Agreement was also a success of the solidarity of the international community including US peace advocates.

The US delegates, led by Frank Howard Joyce, expressed their pleasure to visit Vietnam, saying they want to understand more about Vietnam and current Vietnam-US relations. They will also meet with Vietnamese peace activists who were involved in the Paris Accord signing to learn about the significance of the peace movement to ending the US war in Vietnam and the need for cooperative peace activities between the two sides.
