(VOVworld) – The US attaches paramount importance to maritime safety and security and is deeply concerned with China’s unilateral and provocative acts in the East Sea. US Senator Benjamin Cardin, who is Chairman of the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee under the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, made the remarks at a press briefing in Hanoi on Wednesday.
He said tensions in the East Sea had been high on the agenda of his meetings with Vietnamese leaders over the past 2 days. He expressed the US government and Congress’ concerns over China’s aggressive acts in the East Sea, noting that such acts not only threatened Vietnam’s security, but also adversely affected the whole region’s maritime security and safety, as well as the US interests.
He added that the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee under the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations had approved a resolution opposing China’s unilateral acts in the East Sea and this resolution would soon be submitted for the US Congress’ consideration.
