Sherman said she hopes Washington and Seoul will continue to discuss regional challenges, including actions that run counter to the interests of the US and the Republic of Korea and threaten to undermine international order.

She added both countries will discuss how to deepen cooperation to address climate change, one of the biggest crises facing the world.

Choi took note of Sherman's role in the so-called Perry Process in 1999, saying the effort demonstrated that the Korean Peninsula issue can be settled through diplomacy.

He said since the launch of the Biden administration, bilateral communication and exchanges have continued without a pause even for a day, adding that the South Korea-US alliance is being reinforced as the two countries help each other.
