(VOVworld) – Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh received US ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius in Hanoi on Friday.

Vinh proposed that the US support Vietnam to overcome the war’s aftermath and build mutual trust as a premise for further bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Osius said the US deems it important to develop cooperation with Vietnam including national defense. He said that the US plans to increase budget and apply advanced technologies to help Vietnam clean up dioxin and overcome the effects of unexploded bombs and mines left over from the war.

Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Vinh received Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific under the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Capstone group from the US National Defense University.
