US, Taliban discuss Afghan peace process
(VOVWORLD) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held a video meeting on Monday with the Taliban’s chief negotiator to discuss the state of the Afghanistan peace process and the release of Taliban prisoners held by the Afghan government, according to a Taliban spokesman.

Spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said the Taliban wants the prisoners to be freed before they resume talks with government officials and other forces on a political settlement to end decades of war in the country. The US State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
