US to impose additional round of tariffs if no China trade deal
(VOVWORLD) - US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Monday that an additional round of tariffs on Chinese imports will likely be imposed on December 15 if a trade deal with China has not been reached by then, but added that he expects the agreement to happen.

Mnuchin said American and Chinese officials will hold talks by phone this week and next as they work to finalize “phase one” of the deal announced last week. He said deputy-level officials will hold discussions by phone this week and he and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will talk by phone with China’s trade envoy, Vice-Premier Liu He, next week. Senior officials will then meet in Santiago, Chile, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.
