US, Vietnam strengthen economic ties

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue met on Tuesday with US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer as part of his official visit to the US.

Mr. Hue urged the US to recognize Vietnam’s market economy, deal with anti-dumping and anti-subsidy lawsuits against Vietnamese shrimp, washing machines, solar panels and woven sacks, and exempt tariffs on Vietnamese steel and aluminum products.

At a meeting with Ambassador Charlene Barshefsky, a former US Trade Representative who signed the Vietnam-US Bilateral Trade Agreement in 2000, Mr. Hue lauded the contributions Barshefsky has made to bilateral ties.

He urged Barshefsky to continue supporting development cooperation between the two countries, especially in economy, trade, investment, to strengthen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.
