US wants to enhance solidarity in ASEAN

(VOVworld)-US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday arrived in Indonesia, part of her 11-day visit to countries in Asia-Pacific, to consolidate their comprehensive partnership and commitments to regional a global issues. Speaking at the joint press conference with her Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa, Clinton said China and its neighboring countries in Southeast Asia must build a code of conduct to address disputes in the East Sea. Clinton affirmed that the US does not take a position on competing territorial disputes in the East Sea but it believes the nations in the region should work collaboratively to resolve the disputes without intimidation and use of force. Clinton said that the US has a national interest in resolving peacefully disputes in the East Sea, and Washington encourages ASEAN and China to make meaningful progress before the East Asia Summit in November.

Clinton is expected to meet with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and visit the headquarters of the ASEAN on Tuesday as a part of efforts to promote ties with the economically dynamic bloc.
