(VOVworld) - President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Vu Xuan Hong, welcomed a delegation from the US Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Hanoi on Wednesday.
The delegation, led by John Biedrzycki, Senior Vice Commander-in-chief of the VFW, is on a visit to Vietnam from March 24-28.
Hong said he highly valued the VFW’s support for Vietnam and suggested increasing bilateral information exchanges in the search for the remains of missing Vietnamese and US soldiers.
He also called on the American organization to persuade the US Congress to address the Agent Orange/Dioxin contamination and unexploded bombs and mines remaining from the American war.
Mr. John Biedrzycki expressed his feelings on his first visit to Vietnam: “I saw the vibrancy of this city and vibrancy of Vietnamese people engaging in so many interesting things. We are very happy Vietnam has a positive reputation in our country for the business that you have been conducting. And we appreciate that. Americans appreciate the good products that you make and appreciate the relations that all people should have”.
Mr. John Biedrzycki expressed his desire to make more practical contributions to overcoming the after-effects of war. During the visit, the delegations will make some fact-finding tours to various localities in an effort to search for those US soldiers missing during war in Vietnam.
