US-North Korea nuclear talks unsmooth

(VOVWORLD) -All eyes are now on the Korean peninsula, following Pyongyang’s abrupt announcement that it test-fired a new tactical guided weapon, which North Korea described as “an event of very weighty significance in increasing the combat power of the People’s Army.”

Experts view the move as “moderate provocation”, a message that Pyongyang wants to send to the US because the newly-tested weapon is short-range, not a long-range missile which can reach the US territory. But it signals to the US and its South Korean ally that North Korea will not bow to the US sanctions. The test reminds that North Korean leader never vows to end test-firing all weapons in North Korean arsenal. He only promised to suspend nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missile.

This has been North Korea’s first public weapons test since the breakdown of a summit between President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un in February in Hanoi.
