At the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen the US-RoK alliance, maintain close cooperation and strengthen security ties to cope with the changing environment in the Indo-Pacific. They also discussed the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, stressing the need to coordinate efforts to promote global peace and stability.

The White House on Tuesday released a statement that President Yoon Suk-yeol and First Lady Kim Keon-hee will visit the US on April 26.

“The upcoming visit celebrates the 70th anniversary of the US-RoK alliance, which is critical to advancing peace, stability, and prosperity for our two countries, the Indo-Pacific, and around the world. President Biden and President Yoon will highlight the importance and enduring strength of the ironclad US-RoK alliance as well as the United States’ unwavering commitment to the RoK. The Presidents will discuss our shared resolve to deepen and broaden our political, economic, security, and people-to-people ties,” the statement said.

This is Yoon Suk-yeol's first visit to the US since taking office in May 2022. The last time a Republic of Korean president visited the US was in October 2011.
