These passengers included those stranded at Narita Airport due to Japan’s entry restrictions to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic and many airlines’ orders to halt flights to Vietnam. Others are those in extremely difficult situations with no stable accommodations in Japan, who are repatriated under the Vietnamese Embassy's support.

As the Covid-19 outbreak has been reported across the world, many airlines have stopped their international flights. Vietnam Airlines has cooperated with countries worldwide to organize flights for both Vietnamese citizens and foreign nationals. These included those to bring Vietnamese people back home from Wuhan (China), the Philippines, Europe, and Thailand, as well as those to transport citizens of Germany and other European Union countries back to their home countries.
